Brenda Fassie
Brenda Nokuzola Fassie was born on November 3, 1964, in Cape Town, South Africa. Known by her fans as “The Black Madonna,” MaBrrr, “Madonna of the Townships,” or the Queen of African pop, Fassie left her hometown of Cape Town for Johannesburg, in aims of achieving her dreams of becoming a renowned singer.
Achieving an illustrious music career filled with many high charting albums and singles, Fassie pushed the lines of sexuality by having relationships with women.
Fassie was known for being “outrageous,” during her shows. She displayed selflessness to loved ones and lived her life with vigor.
Fassie died on May 9, 2004.
