10-year-old named Miracle helps mother deliver baby after she went into labor at home

A 10-year-old girl named Miracle is being praised for her heroics in helping her mother deliver her baby sister after she went into labor at their Missouri home. According to Today, Miracle’s mother, Viola Fair, unexpectedly went into labor on October 23. Her due date was supposed to be in three weeks.

But that date was pushed forward – prompting Miracle to step in and help her mother deliver her little sister. After her mother went into a medical emergency, the fourth-grader called 911 for help. But she had to step in until paramedics arrived at their home.

“Hi, I think my mom is in labor,” Miracle told dispatcher Scott Stranghoener during the call. And while they waited for an ambulance to get to their home, Miracle repeatedly told her mother the information Stranghoener passed to her.

“Don’t sit on the toilet” she told her mother. “Mama, they said lay on your back in the center of the bed or on the floor.”

After Stranghoener became aware Fair was having issues lying down as she was told to do, he asked Miracle to go for towels or blankets and put them under her mother’s body. She also unlocked their front door to enable emergency responders to make their way inside. During the call, Miracle’s mother was heard screaming in pain.

“It’s OK, Mama, it’s OK!” Miracle was heard telling her mother in the recording. “I think her water broke…” the fourth-grader also told Stranghoener. The 10-year-old was also later heard saying, “She’s coming! She’s coming!”.  “She’s here! … Her head is here,” she added.

And after Stranghoener told Miracle he was going to give her instructions on how to help her mother deliver the baby, the minor responded by saying, “Huh?” After Fair eventually delivered, Miracle was heard saying, “She’s out!”

“It was definitely a miracle because once I had the baby, she came out, I couldn’t really grab her and pick her up and then Miracle came and she wrapped her up in a towel,” Fair told KDSK. “She wiped her off and rubbed her back a little bit so she could cry. So, she was really helpful. I am very thankful.”

Miracle also showed the first responders where her mother was when they arrived. “You did a very good job,” Stranghoener told Miracle.

“I learned pretty quick that we had a serious situation. We have a set of protocols that we follow, and she followed all of my instructions to a ‘T’ and did an amazing job,” Stranghoener told the news outlet. “A few minutes later, we had another baby girl in the house.”

For her heroics, the North County Fire & Rescue gave Miracle a “special certificate and a personalized shirt from CCE911″ and “a pink stork pin (that EMS providers typically receive after delivering a baby in the field).”

She also received “another special certificate from CHEMS, and from NCFR she received a tablet loaded with educational games and a special journal to document all the amazing things she has done and will do!”

The North County Fire & Rescue also said Miracle’s little sister wasn’t left out as she was also given some gifts. And though Miracle also said she might want to pursue a career in the medical field, she said her current focus is being there for her younger siblings.

“She’s really cute. She doesn’t cry a lot, and I get to hold her a lot,” she said about her little sister.
