The Cape of Good Hope
The colony was established in 1795 as the first Europen settlement in Africa. The colony was established as a trading point by the Dutch and was handed to the British. The colony went through several exchanges between the Dutch and the British and was most sought after the discovery of diamonds and gold.
The colony had a population of about 2.5 million people and as at 1904, it was dominated by a black population due to the fact that they were brought in to work and also due to the leaving of Europeans. The colony is noted to be the catalyst of Dutch colonial rule in Southern Africa.
