Mahia

Mahia is a spirit made from figs or dates with the addition of aniseed, doubly distilled. In Morocco, its home country, it is still available for cheap in stores and supermarkets. Because of its limited availability, the spirit has almost faded into obscurity. Mahia can be paired with food, including wine, and is most commonly sipped straight up, during or after dinner. It can also be used as a base for all kinds of cocktails and mixtures.
