Jean-Bédel Bokassa

Bokassa was trained by the French army and served France as part of the country’s African regiment in World War II. He even rose to the position of sergeant major.

In 1965, Bokassa led a group of disgruntled military men to overthrow the government of President David Dacko of the Central African Republic. Bokassa ruled the CAR between 1966 and 1976.
