‘Tame’ lion kills boy in South Africa
A 12-year-old boy died in April 2017 after being attacked by a so-called tame lion. Kristian Prinsloo was mauled by the big cat in Lephalale in the north-eastern Limpopo province of South Africa. He had been visiting his grandmother, Marie Strydom, at her home on an estate owned by friends. These friends had kept three lions in cages on their estate. Reports state that one of the lions, all of a sudden, appeared in the kitchen. Kristian’s father then shouted to his son to run to the bedroom, but the lion grabbed him and bit his neck. He would later die from injuries. Thousands of condolences were sent to the family after his death.
