Nandi Cain Jr. was manhandled by the police

The 24-year-old was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched in the face in April 2017 by a police officer who claimed Cain had jaywalked. A video of the incident was recorded by a bystander and posted to Facebook, sparking anger among many. Police had initially charged Cain with resisting arrest but he was later released. The police at the time said Cain had a history of disobeying officers and resisting arrest. The police officer involved was placed on administrative leave and later suspended after the incident was found as unacceptable.
