Gestational diabetes/pre-eclampsia

Women who have had gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia are at an increased risk of having a stroke later.

“It’s really now obvious that women who’ve had either gestational diabetes or pregnancy and hypertension are at increased risk of those chronic conditions, including stroke and heart disease, and most of those women are not followed up or are unaware of the risk,” as explained on nine.com.au.

“The rate of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia for black women is 61% higher than it is for white women and 50% higher than for women overall, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.”
