5 things Guinea's first president, Sekou Toure, will be remembered for

He made Guinea a home for Nkrumah and his namesake, Kwame Toure

Sekou Toure is known for offering asylum to Kwame Nkrumah after he was ousted in Ghana in 1966. Nkrumah became the country’s co-president.

Two years later, he would accommodate African American civil rights activist and Pan Africanist Stokley Carmichael, who took changed his name to Kwame Toure after Toure and Nkrumah.
