5 things Guinea's first president, Sekou Toure, will be remembered for

He was influential in helping Guinea-Bissau get independence

Toure helped Guinea-Bissau’s independence party, PAIGC, fight against the Portuguese, who retaliated and tried to depose him but to no avail. Conakry was the headquarters of the PAIGC since 1959 until it gained independence in 1973.
