Authorities in St. Joseph County, Indiana, have launched an investigation into the death of a 5-year-old boy after his father accidentally ran over him. According to ABC57 News, the fatal July 23 incident occurred at the Castle Point Apartments.

The St. Joseph County Police went to the aforementioned address on the night of the incident after they received a report about a minor not breathing. Police described the scene as very chaotic when they responded.

It was previously reported that the minor, identified as Jeremiah Holmes, was a victim of a shooting incident and he had been struck in the head. Authorities, however, established that wasn’t the case.

Officers through investigations also determined the minor sustained the injury at Castle Point’s playground parking area after his father Christopher Holmes accidentally ran over him. Jeremiah later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The minor’s father did not sustain any injuries and cooperated with investigators. A GoFundMe has since been set up to help raise funds for Jeremiah’s funeral.

“We appreciate and Thank you for the prayers and condolences,” the fundraiser stated. “However if you can find it in your heart to help us send our loved one home, it too will be greatly appreciated.”
