Yvonne Chaka Chaka, South Africa
Born in 1965 in Soweto, South Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is an internationally celebrated singer, songwriter, teacher, and humanitarian. She is locally referred to as the “Princess of Africa.” Chaka started her music career at the age of 19, becoming the first Black child to appear on South African television in 1981. Some of her most popular songs include “I’m Burning Up,” “Thank You Mister DJ,” “Makoti,” and “I Cry for Freedom.”
