A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the toilet bin of an Air Mauritius plane, BBC reported. The abandoned baby was found by airline staff who were conducting a routine customs check after the plane landed in the East African nation on January 1.
Following the discovery, a 20-year-old woman from Madagascar was arrested in connection with abandoning the baby after giving birth to him on the said flight. The baby was also transported to a hospital for medical care.
A medical check that was conducted on the woman confirmed she had just given birth. The suspect, who reportedly traveled to the island nation on a two-year work permit, subsequently remained at the hospital under police surveillance.
Authorities plan to question the woman after she’s discharged. She also faces a charge of abandoning a newborn, BBC reported.
Both mother and child are, however, reportedly doing well.
