3. Royal Palace of Porto-Novo
The Royal Palace of Porto-Novo is also referred to as “King Toffa’s Palace.” It used to be the royal residence of King Toffa who ruled the kingdom of Hogbonu in the 18th century. The Kingdom of Hogbonu is what is currently known as Porto-Novo, the second largest city in Benin.
Today, the site serves as the Museum of Porto-Novo, with most displays dating back to the King Toffa period. The palace was added to the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in October 1996.
