Quvenzhané Wallis
Quvenzhané Wallis is an American actress and author. She is best known for her roles as Hushpuppy in the film Beasts of the Southern Wild and Annie Bennett Stacks in the musical remake Annie (2014). At the age of 5, she successfully auditioned for her first acting job, the aforementioned Beasts of the Southern Wild.
In 2014, the musical remake of Annie starring Wallis was released. When the news of a black Annie came out earlier in 2013, there was protest from some movie lovers because Annie had always been played by a young white girl.
The film was released to massive box-office success, grossing over USD100 million against a budget of less than ten per cent of that. It went on to receive some honours like Golden Globe nominations in the categories of Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical (for Wallis) and Best Original Song. She is the only person born in the 21st century to ever be nominated for an acting Oscar and the youngest actress ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
