Doe with then Secretary of Defense of the United States Caspar W. Weinberger outside the Pentagon in 1982.

Samuel Doe

Samuel Doe was a military leader turned politician. He was Liberia’s 21st president.

He ruled in Liberia from 1980-1990.

During a civil war and coup d’état instigated by Ivorian guerilla members, Doe was tortured and killed – on television.

Ironically, Doe killed his predecessor William Tolbert, 10 years prior.
