As details continue to roll in by the minute, reports indicate that at least five people have been killed after a police station in Maiduguri was ambushed.

Boko Haram Islamic Sect Attacks Nigerian Police StationMaiduguri, a city located in the northern Nigeria, is no stranger to such attacks. Officials say that as rapid gunfire rang out, at least three explosions rang out. These attacks are believed to be the latest by the Boko Haram Islamic Sect.

Boko Haram has already claimed the lives of hundreds in previous attacks. Its members have killed scores of police officers and politicians within Maiduguri in the past year.

A spokesman for the sect affirms that the group is responsible for killing the brother of the Shehu of Borno, one of Nigeria’s most important Islamic leaders. Boko Haram has also been accused of killing Ibrahim Birkuti.

The sect is said to have killed the cleric as a result of his criticism of Boko Haram. Birkuti, like previous victims, was killed by a gunman riding a motorbike.

In an effort to stop the city’s escalating violence, the Nigerian police have made hundreds of arrest and imposed a ban on motorbikes at night. Despite this, violence in Maiduguri continues to escalate.
