Since Africa has some of the oldest civilisations in the world, it would be wrong to think that the cities that existed during this time were created only when Europeans and Asians arrived on the continent.
Most cities were created by Africans, but some were destroyed throughout these civilisations through war, abandonment and other reasons.
But did you know some of these cities are still inhabited to this day? They may have changed their structure or name but they have continually been home to many Africans and other visitors throughout history.
Most of these cities started off as outposts or trading centres and grew to be what they are today but others were constructed with the structures and facilities of any major city at the time and were even capitals of various kingdoms that thrived ages ago.
