Chris Brown has once again found himself entangled in legal trouble, this time during a visit to the United Kingdom.

According to various reports, the American singer and songwriter was arrested early Thursday morning at a Manchester hotel. Authorities believe Brown may be connected to a 2023 bottle attack that took place at a London nightclub.

He is currently being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm stemming from an incident involving music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.

The Sun reported that it learned of Brown’s UK arrival on Wednesday and subsequently informed the Metropolitan Police, prompting officers to act.

A spokesperson for the Met Police confirmed Brown’s arrest, stating: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.”

“He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit,” the statement continued.

According to the Sun, Met officers traveled from London to Manchester after confirming Brown had entered the country on a private jet.

Speaking with the outlet in 2023, Diaw alleged that Brown struck him with a bottle before following up with punches and kicks as he lay on the floor. He said he suffered a collapsed knee, was hospitalized, and needed crutches upon release.

Despite the arrest, Brown’s representatives have yet to issue a public statement. The artist is in the middle of a UK tour, with several performances slated for June and July.

Brown’s arrest adds to a lengthy list of past legal issues. He made headlines globally in 2009 for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, an incident that led to a felony charge and a temporary UK visa denial in 2010.

Subsequent years saw Brown involved in a series of violent altercations: a 2012 nightclub fight involving Drake’s entourage, a 2013 parking lot dispute with Frank Ocean, and a felony assault case in Washington, D.C. that same year, which resulted in jail time.

In 2015, he was reportedly tied to an assault during a basketball game in Las Vegas, an allegation his team denied. Then, in 2016, police arrested him at his home for allegedly threatening someone with a deadly weapon.

A year later, a court ordered Chris Brown to stay away from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran after she reported repeated threats. He was also implicated in a lawsuit over a post-concert assault in Fort Worth, Texas, where he and his team allegedly beat four men.

Despite his musical success, Brown’s career continues to be overshadowed by persistent legal controversies.
