Sinners, the latest hit from director Ryan Coogler starring Michael B. Jordan now sits with some of the top films ever created.
On Saturday, Warner Bros.’ Sinners reached a box office milestone, becoming the sixth horror film in history to surpass the $200 million mark domestically.
The movie has cemented its place as one of the top movies of 2025 and has also moved into the conversations as one of the most successful horror movies in history.
While the film starring Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, and Miles Caton, among other respected names, has achieved numerous accolades, its latest is a true tip of the cap to the film’s success.
With a reported budget of $90 million and a unique deal to give Ryan Coogler the film’s rights back in 25 years, Sinners was a risky move for Warner’s film studio executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
The two aim to cultivate relationships with filmmakers by producing high-profile original films like Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming, One Battle After Another.
While overseas grosses are low at $69 million, Sinners will pass $300 million worldwide in the coming week and turn a profit theatrically.
It is also setting itself up for plenty of post-theatrical revenue with its early Oscar buzz that should play into strong interest in premium on-demand and Blu-Ray sales and could potentially boost streaming subscriptions upon its release on Max.
It’s a cool and different type of recognition for Coogler and everyone involved in the film, as it highlights just how significant and widespread the interest in the film has been since its release.
With $23 million earned over Mother’s Day weekend at the beginning of Sunday, Coogler’s most recent smash continues to rank near the top of the box office rankings each week, adding to its already stellar three-week start.
According to a report by Variety, Sinners is now about $10 million behind Thunderbolts, which is presently in its second weekend in theaters, with $23 million for its fourth week.
