A father-and-son team has impressed the internet with its amazing coordination in a viral video. Mr. Antonio Rivers and his son Avante staged a historic start to homecoming at the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU).
Antonio is seen sporting a tracksuit that reflects the colors of the university. He conducts the marching band while holding his drum major staff and whistles in the video, which has now received over 201,000 views. The announcer introduces them as a father and son as Antonio cuts in time with the team and then turns to queue up drum major Avante.
While father and son perform as an ensemble, audience members cheer the team on until Avante takes charge of the team alone.
The moment was a literal passing of the torch and a lovely moment of legacy for the Rivers team, according to Because Of Them We Can.
FAMU’s Marching 100 said it was a first-of-its-kind moment for the school. “This homecoming these two made history as they shared the first moment in history where a father and son brought it off together at yesterday’s homecoming. Congratulations Mr. Antonio Rivers and his son Avante Rivers,” the band posted.
According to the University of Illinois, homecoming is a long-standing American custom in which universities and high schools greet returning alumni to campus and the community. A lot of graduates take advantage of this chance to give back to their alma mater during homecoming.
Rapper Latto recently made a surprise homecoming visit to her former high school, during which she gave $35,000. In remembrance of his homecoming, music star Diddy also donated $1 million to his old university. To commemorate the occasion, he also put on a show.
