Joseph Kabila
The son of the former president Laurent Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo was nurtured to take over his father when he was appointed to a high ranking position in the military. Junior Kabila had led the troops in his father’s rebellion against Mobutu Sese Seko.
He took over his father’s presidency at the age of 29 after Laurent was assassinated in 2001.
The country is currently undergoing a political crisis, with the Congolese protesting Kabila’s third term and demanding his resignation.
