Five prolific African first children nurtured by their fathers to be presidents

Ian Khama

Ian Khama

Although he did not take over from his father, Sir Seretse Khama, Ian Khama was nurtured for the presidency in his earlier life.  He became a brigadier general at age 24 when his father was president, thus becoming the deputy Commander to late former Vice President Lt. Gen.Mompati Merafhe.  He served in this position until he became vice president in 1998.

He, however, could not take over his position as vice president because he was not a member of parliament. He ran for a seat in Serowe North and won. In taking part in party politics, Khama forfeited his inheritance for the Bamangwato chieftancy.
