Formed decades before colonial independence, these are Africa’s oldest football clubs still making waves

Esperance – 1919

The Tunis based Tunisian football club was founded on January 15, 1919, and has since then emerged as one of the most successful clubs in Africa. Esperance has so far 29 Tunisian League wins, 15 Tunisian Cups, and 4 Tunisian Supercups. At a continental level, the club has 3 CAF Champions League titles. Currently the most popular club in Tunisia, Esperance has one of the biggest fan bases in Africa and the Arab world. The Stade Olympique de Rades is the club’s home stadium.
