With his forthcoming stand-up special, amid his son transitioning and telling jokes about it, trans father, Dwyane Wade, is saluting Marlon Wayans for showing unconditional love

During an appearance earlier this month on “The Breakfast Club,” Wayans revealed that his next comedy special is inspired by his 23-year-old trans son, Kai.

Marlon Wayans will open up about transition, not just Kai’s, but also his as a father.

“I talk about the transition. Not her, his, or their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” said the 51-year-old.

“I think there’s a lot of parents out there that need to have that message. I know; I’m dealing with it. It was a very painful situation for me.”

“I just want my kids to be free,” Wayans said. I want them to be free—free to be who they are, free in spirit and mind. Your ability to control yourself will increase with your self-awareness; the more you live authentically, the happier you will be. Who the f**k do I send out into the world with that kind of confidence if they can’t even get that at home with their mother and father? And I’m incredibly proud of them for who they are. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have any jokes!

The popular actor revealed that his son was aware of the comedy special and also indicated that the show would be called Rainbow Child or Skittles.

Wayans went on to add that he wanted to set the standard because “it’s important” to him after having recently performed it.

On the other hand, Dwyane Wade, whose daughter Zaya, 16, came out as trans in 2020, praised Wayan during an appearance on Thursday for the GQ Men of the Year party at Bar Marmont in West Hollywood.

“I think unconditional love allows us to step in and listen and learn about what we do not know and what we were not taught, especially in the black community,” Wade said. “I salute Marlon for speaking out and speaking up about this experience with his child just the same way as I’ve done. We’re just the voices that are speaking for our kids right now before they get an opportunity to grab that microphone and speak for themselves. I salute him,” the former NBA star noted.

Wade continued, “This is his experience and what he’s dealing with. He’s coming out and selling it from his point of view. It’s great for fathers, especially, to speak to them from their point of view and how they had to handle it and deal with it.”
