Two Ghanaian government ministers and six other people were killed in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti region on Wednesday, according to the Chief of Staff to Ghana’s President.
Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed were killed alongside Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were the crew members.
The officials were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter on its way to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region when it went off radar Wednesday morning.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at a press briefing from the presidency on Wednesday identified the victims. At the time of putting together this story, emergency response teams had rushed to the crash site.
The cause of the crash is yet to be confirmed.
