Fortress Sao Miguel – Angola
The Fortress of Sao Miguel was built in 1576 by the Portuguese colonizer Paulo Dias De Novais and is found on a large hilltop in Luanda, Angola. The fort became the administrative Centre of the Portuguese colony in 1627 and was the holding point for many slaves after being captured or bought and later shipped off to Brazil. Despite its dark history of heavy slave trade. The bright white fort is a beautiful depiction of ancient Portuguese art and architecture which can be seen through the design tiling and statues that exist within the fort. Some statues include those of Diago Cao and Vasco Da Gama.
