Fort Sao Sebastiao – Mozambique
Fort Sao Sebastiao is located in Stone Town in the island of Mozambique and is the oldest complete fort still existing in Sub-Saharan Africa till date. The large fort was built by the Portuguese and took close to fifty years to complete having started in 1558. The fort is a reminder of the long years of colonization of the small island country. In modern times Pousada Forte de Sao Sebastiao is a luxurious hotel that exists within the fort.
