Tea at 4pm

Zambia gained independence from Britain in 1964 and although the British left their country after independence, they left one aspect of their culture with Zambians.

Their love for afternoon tea grew on the Zambians and even after the colonizers left, the afternoon tea tradition remained. Zambians refer to ‘4 pm’ tea as ’16 hours.’ The tea is usually accompanied with bread biscuits or fritter; round dough balls fried in hot oil.
