An Ohio mother is mourning the loss of her two children after they were fatally shot at the parking lot of an apartment complex off Euclid Avenue. In an interview with WOIO, LaShawnda Grier said she was at the scene when the shooting occurred, adding that her son died in her arms.
“As a mother, how do you pick which kid you are trying to save and both of them down?” Grier said. “All of us fell at the same time. I got up, my oldest daughter got up and ran up the hill, and I ran down the hill. I saw my son underneath the car, and my other ones fell, and I picked him up, and he was so slumped,” she added.
Grier said her deceased 21-year-old daughter, Mariana Grier, stayed in the apartment complex, and a group of women had waited at the scene to assault Mariana prior to the shooting. She also said her deceased 20-year-old son, Antwon Grier, had gone to the apartment to try and calm tempers.
“I know for a fact it was all over a boy,” Grier said. She also told WOIO that the deadly altercation stemmed from jealousy over a relationship. She added that the group of women seen in the security camera footage and her daughter were work colleagues.
She also claimed other people in a van were waiting for the ambush. “They came there to ambush my kids,” Grier claimed.
The grieving mother was nearly struck by the gunfire, and she ended up administering CPR on her son. The siblings succumbed to their injuries in a hospital on December 10. An investigation into the fatal incident has since been launched, with authorities saying that they have “developed strong leads.”
“Euclid is doing a wonderful job, a wonderful job, and I applaud them for that,” Grier said. “They know I don’t play about my kids. I’ma get justice for my kids. If it’s every breath that’s in my body, I’ma get it.”
