Every so often I’ll remember seeds of wisdom passed down from my Ghanaian Mom about love and relationships. One such special seed popped in my head this morning… “A man should ALWAYS love a woman more than she loves him.”
The way she stated that to me… So matter of fact. No negotiations.
So as I listened to my colleague this morning tell me that she finally told her boyfriend of one year that she loved him and he smiled and replied “Thank You”… ???? It took all I had to refrain from telling her to run!
Now, I’m not saying that just because she’s obviously further in the relationship, he should respond with the “L” word to satisfy or validate her; but I certaintly think she deserves more than a mere Thank You! It makes me ask the question, Is the love in any relationship ever equal?
As I listened to other colleagues tell her… “Don’t worry… He loves you.. He’ll say it soon…” I wonder, are their comforting words actually accurate? And if he is, in fact, in love with her why beat around the bush? If you love her say it. Otherwise, say “Thank You, but I think we are in two different places at this time…” and keep it moving.
