A 35-year-old prisoner from South Carolina was given 15 additional years for flinging a cup of diarrhea at a guard.

Donald Harper Jr. received his sentence on September 15 after pleading guilty to throwing body fluids at a jail officer.

According to WRDW, Assistant Solicitor Doug Fender requested the maximum sentence during the sentencing hearing, citing Harper’s substantial disciplinary record while confined with the South Carolina Department of Corrections and his lengthy criminal history in Richland County. Harper’s criminal history in Richland County includes breach of peace and second-degree burglary, voluntary manslaughter, pointing and presenting a firearm, and armed robbery.

The judge gave him the maximum punishment of an extra 15 years in prison.

Harper fatally shot a Benedict College professor in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2015. He was given a 24-year prison sentence for that offense.

On the evening of January 11, 2025, a correctional officer was delivering meals to inmates inside Harper’s dormitory at the McCormick prison. Harper threw a cup of feces directly into the officer’s face as the officer gave him his dinner.

The fecal matter hit the officer in the eyes and mouth, and he underwent immediate medical treatment while continuing to monitor for possible infectious diseases.

Before this week’s guilty plea, Harper was expected to be freed from prison in 2036. However, the judge ruled that Harper’s 15-year sentence for hurling diarrhea at the officer should be served when his current sentence expires.

That implies Harper is now set to be released in 2051.

He is still being held at McCormick Prison.
