Janet Jackson is set to receive the Icon Award at the 2025 American Music Awards, where she will also perform for the first time on TV since 2018.

The honor is bestowed upon an artiste whose music has had undeniable cultural and global influence over the music industry.

This recognition also celebrates Janet’s 50 years in the music industry, and she is preparing for an epic her first time on TV since 2018.

The 11-time American Music Awards winner will also perform on the show, marking her first television performance since 2018.

This isn’t the first time Jackson has received such an award – she had several others, such as the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2015 BET Awards, the Icon Award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, and the Global Icon Award at the 2018 MTV EMAs.

Jackson, 58, has been a recording artist since 1982, when her debut album was released on A&M.

This musical icon has amassed 10 No.1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven No.1 albums on the Billboard 200.

Janet Jackson has won five Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Oscar nomination for best original song, along with multiple MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

Over the years, Jackson has broken numerous Billboard chart records. She became the first female artist to have five top 10 songs on the Hot 100 with her 1986 album Control.

The only album to produce seven top five songs on the Hot 100 is Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, released in 1989.

She became the first artist to achieve five or more top 10 songs on the Hot 100 from three distinct albums in 1993 when her album, Janet, achieved six top 10 hits on the Hot 100.

Along with Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and U2, Janet is one of just four artists to have a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.

She joined her brothers, the Jackson 5, who were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, when she was inducted in 2019 (with Janelle Monáe performing the honors).

The 51st AMAs will air live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+
