Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris teased the possibility of another presidential bid, saying some people considered her “the most qualified candidate ever to run for president.”
Harris made the remarks during a discussion with Kara Swisher, where she reflected on her political journey, future ambitions, and lessons learned from her time in the Biden administration.
When Swisher asked if she planned to run for president in 2028, Harris smiled and said, “Maybe. Maybe not,” drawing cheers from the audience. She has already ruled out a campaign for California governor in 2026.

Answering which policies she would prioritize if elected, Harris deflected. “It’s much too early to have that conversation, Kara,” she said. “I literally yesterday would not have known that this Department of Justice would have indicted the New York Attorney General, right?”
Harris used the moment to criticize the Trump administration‘s Department of Justice before emphasizing that Democrats must stay focused on addressing “the immediate needs of the American people.” She admitted there were aspects of the Biden administration’s approach she might have handled differently.
“I actually, in reflection, one of the things I would have done differently — and I talk about a few things but one of them on this topic — I really do think we should have done the families piece of ‘Build Back Better’ before we did the infrastructure and the CHIPS Act,” she said.
Her comments came as part of a broader discussion about her 2024 presidential campaign, which she chronicles in her new memoir 107 Days. Harris described the experience of running against Donald Trump as intense and brief, stating she “couldn’t do enough” to fully connect with voters in the time she had.
She highlighted her long record in public service, listing her roles as a U.S. senator, California’s attorney general, and San Francisco’s district attorney.

“That’s a decent résumé, but go ahead,” Swisher quipped, prompting laughter from the audience.
“Well, some people have actually said I was the most qualified candidate ever to run for president,” Harris replied to applause, adding, “I’m just speaking fact.”
