Pop diva Mariah Carey made history this Christmas Eve by smashing the all-time Spotify streaming record for a single day.

Her iconic holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” was played a staggering 23,701,697 times, surpassing her own record from the previous year when the song garnered 21,273,357 streams on the same day.

Carey’s dominance on Spotify during Christmas Eve is a recurring feat. The trend of breaking her own records seems to be a recurring script, as she initially set a milestone in 2020 with over 17.2 million streams on that day. She surpassed that record the following year, according to TMZ.

There has been a rivalry between Carey and Brenda Lee over who is the “Queen of Christmas” this year. Lee briefly dethroned Carey from the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 during the lead-up to Christmas.

This marked the first time Lee claimed the top spot, interrupting Carey’s long-standing reign in the holiday music scene. In a fascinating show of commendation, Carey sent Lee flowers and a congratulatory note.

“Dearest Mr. Brenda, congratulations on your historic number one. Have a merry Christmas, love Mariah.”

Lee replied by saying “Thank you for your sweet note, Mariah Carey. Wishing you the merriest Christmas too.”

However, Carey swiftly reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard’s Hot 100 the following week.
