For nearly three decades Donald C. Notice has been a leader in community development in Harlem. As the Executive Director of West Harlem Group Assistance (WHGA), Notice, who oversees more than 120 employees with an annual budget of $6 million, is responsible for the implementation and compliance of all programs in WHGA’s comprehensive housing and social service portfolio.
Since his succession as Executive Director of WHGA in 1998, Notice has leveraged public and private support to redevelop over 1,600 units of affordable housing including over $200 million in development costs. This diverse affordable housing portfolio provides safe, quality housing to seniors, low and moderate income families, adults with special needs and the formerly homeless.
In a recent milestone in the organization’s history, WHGA, led by Notice secured a 50% partnership in one of the country’s largest public housing redevelopment projects totaling 36 buildings and 330 units of affordable housing for low and moderate income residents.
Mr. Notice serves on numerous boards including Community Impact at Columbia University, NY Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the Association For Neighborhood and Housing Development, Inc. He is also a Trustee of Lincoln University.
“Harlem has welcomed African immigrants for several decades now and it is where most of them make their home. WHGA, through the leadership of Mr. Notice has positively impacted African communities and other minorities by providing access to the social support and resources needed for success. We are proud to honor his commitment with the Community Development Award,” said Face2face Africa CEO Isaac O. Babu-Boateng.
