Christiana Freeman
Closely followed on this trail was Christiana Freeman who was an instructor in the Abyssinian Meeting House between 1841 and 1852. She was part of the civil rights leaders and conductors of the Underground Railroad who ensured freed slaves were protected and kept safe, according to the Historical Marker Database. As director of the Coloured Orphans in New York City, she played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of many children during the Draft Riots of 1863.
