Meet the African artists at the 2019 Venice Biennale Art Exhibition

African artists at the 2019 Venice Biennale Art exhibition in Italy

The 2019 Art Biennale in Venice, Italy, taking place from May 11 to November 21, 2019, will exhibit artwork from different parts of the world through carefully selected artists making a difference with their work.

Africa might be down by one country this year with eight instead of nine that showcased their works in 2017, however, the loss is in no way felt as two countries with great artists are making their debut and are already all the rage at this year’s event.

Representing Africa this year are, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Madagascar, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, with Ghana and Madagascar making their debut. There are, however, other African exhibitors representing other nations.

The Venice Biennale, a biennial event that takes place in Venice, Italy, is a contemporary visual art exhibition and is the original biennale on which others in the world have been modelled.

This year’s art exhibition will be in its 58th edition and is running with the theme line: “May You Live in Interesting Times”. In no particular order, here are the artistes representing Africa at this year’s event.
