NBA star Michael Porter Jr. may have inked a juicy contract extension worth over $200 million, but the 27-year-old recently made it known that he’s still mindful when spending on a woman.
The Brooklyn Nets star, during an appearance on Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show, revealed that he split rent with his ex-girlfriend despite his considerable wealth, Complex reported.
Porter, however, provided an explanation, stating that his aim was to establish if the woman was “here for the right intention.” And though Laboy, on a lighter note, described Porter as “cheap,” the 27-year-old said he took that line of action because he wanted to ascertain if the woman was with him for the “right reasons” and not because of his money.
“It’s very hard when you have money to tell a woman’s intentions,” Porter stated. “I had never bought a girl expensive gifts before this last girl. And it was cool to do … but I still wanted to know that she was with me for the right reasons. Every dude in this particular person’s past had money. So I never wanted to feel like a girl was just with me because of what I have.”

Porter, however, shared that he was not going to co-habitate with a partner unless they were married. He also provided more insight on the rent issue, stating that it happened when his ex-girlfriend was searching for an apartment. He said that though she ultimately picked her preferred apartment, it was twice her budget.
“This is really nice. I want you to be able to stay here… what can you afford and I’ll split it. I’ll pay the rest,” Porter said. He revealed that he even pledged to pay the difference for a year, even if they were no longer together, Complex reported. But they ended their relationship after five or six months, and Porter got into a state of uncertainty because of that.
“I’m like, man, do I keep helping her out or is it cooked?” Porter said. “At the end of the day, a man is supposed to provide for a woman,” he also emphasized. “But I still want to know she’s in this for the right reasons.”
