Success Story

Migrating to U.S. in 2013, this Jamaican woman became Amazon’s youngest delivery service partner

Cori Gordon, 28, is originally from Jamaica and first migrated to the United States in 2013 after graduating from the Northern Caribbean University. After several years of working for other people, Gordon felt it was time to become her own boss.

“I experienced burnout working 80 plus hours for someone else,” said Gordon, according to Afrotech. “After a bit of soul searching, I realized it was important for me to direct all those hours of energy into something I owned.”

Through research, she found exactly what she was looking for at Amazon. The global retail outlet was running a Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program which aims to share its experience in logistics and operations with people who would want to be entrepreneurs.

The program empowered these entrepreneurs to build their own delivery companies, providing support in terms of infrastructure, technology, and a suite of exclusive services.

Gordon enrolled in the program and gained some knowledge and skills needed to start her entrepreneurial journey. “The most fulfilling thing about being a DSP owner is being a job provider,” Gordon exclaimed. “It’s such an honor for me and I get so excited when an employee gets a new car, or a new phone because I know their employment with my company is helping them reach their goals.”

Through the DSP program, Gordon has managed to build her own delivery from the scratch. Today, she is one of Amazon’s youngest Delivery Service Partners after founding Cortoyou.

Since the start of the program in 2018, the Delivery Service Partner has trained more than 1,300 DSPs operating across the U.S., Canada, UK, Spain, and Germany who have created nearly 85,000 jobs. The beneficiaries of the program include military veterans, former sellers on Amazon.com, educators, city council members and many others who come from a variety of backgrounds.

Brought up by Jamaican parents, Gordon knew the significance of education and self-improvement growing up. Prior to pursuing entrepreneurship, Gordon worked at Tesla as Associate Sales Manager, Delivery Manager and Mobile Delivery Manager. Also, she worked at Long Island-based technology firm Carmatic.

Throughout her professional career, Gordon has managed departments with revenue exceeding $100 billion, according to her website. “She has accomplished note-worthy accolades because of the successful mobilization of her teams and precise execution of strategy,” the website adds.
