The Milwaukee Police Department has reported that one of its officers has died from wounds he received after being ambushed while responding to a weapons call. On June 26, 32-year-old Officer Kendall I. Corder was shot as he was approaching a man on foot.
He died from his injuries three days after the incident, according to Police1. Corder and another officer were abruptly shot in an alley as they approached the suspect. After being hit, both officers were unable to shoot back.
Corder passed away after being taken to a hospital. The second officer was also taken to a hospital, treated, and released. He was 29 years old and had served for more than six years.
A 22-year-old male, Tremaine Jones, was identified as the suspect. According to police, he was arrested without incident. Milwaukee police arrested him on Friday around 2:15 a.m.
“MPD is grateful for every one of our men and women who bravely put on the MPD uniform and face unknown dangers daily. We are proud of your response and hard work to this tragedy and recognize how difficult it must be to continue our important work despite just losing a brother,” the department said in a statement.
The department added, “This is an extremely difficult time for the Milwaukee Police Department as we grieve the loss of our brother. Officer Corder will be greatly missed by all of us.”

Officer Corder served the community honorably for six years, putting his life in danger every time he put on his uniform and reported to work, according to the department.

According to WISN, injured officers and their families can receive assistance from a fund established by the Milwaukee Police Association.
