A young couple is expecting a baby girl after the man’s family tree has been dominated by sons for generations. The Sherman family had a girl born into their family 108 years ago.

The century-long boy streak, however, suddenly came to a stop when the family found out that a daughter was on the way, thanks to Montgomery County Lt. firefighter Michael Sherman and his wife, Joacquia Sherman.

“I never thought this day would come — to be the first ‘girl dad’ in more than a century is humbling and exciting,” Michael told Fox26 Houston.

“This is so much bigger than us. Our daughter will always know she’s part of something extraordinary, and we’re just grateful for this blessing,” Joacquia added.

During a gender reveal party, the Montgomery County firefighter and his wife discovered they are having a daughter in front of family and friends. They already have a five-year-old boy named Mekhai.

“I just feel honored,” Michael told ABC13. “We are the ones bringing the baby girl into the world. Finally, after over a hundred years. It’s amazing.”

Michael’s great-great aunt, Orah Belle Sherman, who was born in 1917, was the last girl to bear the Sherman name.

“She was a trailblazer in Atlanta,” Michael revealed. “She dealt with the civil rights during the civil rights time. She met a lot of civil rights leaders, and she made an impact in Atlanta.”

The family is now looking forward to seeing what the newest Sherman does with her life once she arrives in their world.

“I love her. No matter what path she chooses, we will be with her,” Michael’s grandmother, Lydia Robertson, said. “She’s going to always have support here.”

According to the family, the baby is due in March 2026, ABC13 reported. With this announcement, they also stated that they are hoping to see if they have broken any Guinness World Record.

Per research, Guinness World Records doesn’t yet have a section for family tree with the most boys.  They, however, have representations of the longest family tree, the greatest number of descendants, and the Most living generations.
