A naked man was spotted dancing on top of a moving police car before he was ultimately detained and transported to a hospital.
Per NBC Bay Area, the incident in question occurred in Antioch, California, on June 6, and the video has since gone viral. Jose Garrido, who filmed the incident, told the news outlet that he was in the neighborhood when he spotted the naked man.
“I just turn around I wasn’t expecting to see a naked man on the street,” Garrido said, adding that an officer ultimately arrived at the scene. But the naked man climbed on top of the vehicle when the officer stopped.
While the naked man was on top of the police vehicle, the officer carefully drove to a parking lot and waited for backup. “He gets on the radio and advises dispatch and the responding units as well as the crisis response teams,” Antioch Police Department Chief Joe Vigil said. “Clearly, this guy is having some type of mental episode.”
Vigil said that the naked man ultimately came down after officers convinced him to do so. The man was then detained by the officers before an ambulance later responded to the scene. The officers also determined the man needed to be taken to a hospital, NBC Bay Area reported.
“I think the officers did a really good job not trying to push the issue [so] he wouldn’t get hurt, and no one else gets hurt,” Vigil said.
Garrido also said he was glad the Antioch Police Department handled the incident amicably. “The guy complied. No excessive force, pretty simple,” he said.
