Nigerian passengers aboard a KLM flight from Amsterdam, Holland, to Lagos, Nigeria, teamed up in protest against the inhumane deportation of a fellow Nigerian held in handcuffs.
The Nigerians prevented the flight from taking off after an unidentified man was bundled in to the plane by Dutch officials in preparation for his deportation, according to Naij.com.
Angry at the sight of their countryman held in cuffs like a violent criminal, the passengers demanded that security officials take the cuffs off of him.
The situation on the plane quickly became disorderly, with frightened children crying as security officials struggled without success to restore calm. The officials also reportedly tried to stop several smart-phone wielding passengers from recording the incident.
In footage of the incident, the Nigerians can be seen ordering the deportee to be let off of the plane and vowing to release the video on social media.
While the reasons why the man was being deported remain unclear, his voice could be heard in the background claiming he had been held in jail for months without reason.
Last December, Premium Times reported that a Nigerian deportee passed out aboard a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Lagos, after he was bound hand and foot and dragged in to the plane like cargo by two plainclothes-wearing Dutch policemen.
But in this KLM flight, calm was only restored once the policemen untied the man, allowing him to sit and breathe more comfortably.
