Nigerian trumpeter Joshua Olusanya now holds the record for the “Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet” after playing the musical instrument for over 25 hours, Guinness World Records said.

Olusanya, also known as Trumpet Influencer, earlier tried to earn the record in February 2024 but was disqualified for disrupting his performance to drink water, according to The Punch.

In May this year, he attempted again, playing the trumpet for 25 hours, 30 minutes, and 36 seconds from May 9 to 10 at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Guinness World Records informed Olusanya via an email that his record attempt has been approved.

The message partly read, “Dear Joshua Olusanya, we are thrilled to inform you that your application for Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet has been successful and you are now the Guinness World Records Title Holder!”

“Congratulations, you are Officially Amazing!”

Olusanya shared the news on Instagram while thanking his followers for throwing their weight behind him, especially following his previous disqualification.

“Thank you, Nigeria! We made history together,” he said.

Olusanya’s first record attempt was on February 23, 2024, when he performed for 24 hours and 46 minutes.

However, Guinness World Records disqualified that attempt after Olusanya paused to drink water while performing, which disrupted the flow and was against the attempt rules.

Olusanya shared the disqualification email on social media on May 19, 2024. Guinness World Records wrote, “We are writing to you with reference to your record attempt for Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet.

“As referenced in the guidelines, rest breaks are the only time the claimant can take a bathroom break or sleep during the attempt.

“They may consume food and drink while the record is in progress, but this must not disrupt the flow of the attempt.

“As the participant drank water during the attempt, where the performance was disrupted, the attempt has been disqualified.

“Whilst we fully appreciate that this is not the decision you were hoping for, we trust that you will understand our position.”

According to Guinness World Records, Olusanya attempted this year’s record “to advocate for the recognition of instrumental musicians, promote music education, and inspire talents worldwide to chase their dreams relentlessly.”

The Nigerian trumpeter’s feat comes after Saidu Abdulrahman, a Nigerian photographer, became the holder of the Guinness World Records for the most head shot photographs taken in a single hour.

In September 2024, the 28-year-old photographer broke the previous record of 500 headshots in just 60 minutes, taking an incredible 897.
