Boxing champion Terence Crawford was held at gunpoint by an Omaha police officer in the wee hours of Sunday, causing authorities to announce that they were launching an investigation into the incident.

Further details about the incident have been disclosed by TMZ Sports, as Omaha Police Department documents state that Crawford was pulled over because he was driving at a “high rate of speed.”

And though the documents revealed why the 38-year-old was pulled over, no details were shared about the officer holding him at gunpoint. The documents stated that Crwaford was ultimately “cited and released for reckless driving.”

Per Bleacher Report, the incident occurred a day after Crawford, who is an Omaha native, was honored with a parade in the city after he wrote his name in the boxing history books on September 13 when he defeated Canelo Alvarez and was crowned the undisputed super middleweight champion.

In the video of the traffic stop that was shared on social media, an Omaha police officer is seen holding Crawford at gunpoint as he is asked to step out of the vehicle. Crawford is also heard telling the officer that he’s “not reaching for no gun” as he exits the car with his hands in the air.

“We will gather all the facts and be transparent with the public about our findings,” Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. said in a statement. “Understand that my heart dropped in learning of this end to an otherwise wonderful day and evening celebrating our city’s world boxing champion.”

“We held a great parade and great event at Heartland of America park. The evening birthday party at Steelhouse, which I and members of my team attended, was a showing of joy and pride. Omaha needs to remember this important day as a good one while we seek answers to how it ended,” Ewing added.

“Meanwhile, we must ensure that every resident, no matter who they are, feels safe and respected in Omaha.”

Crawford is scheduled to make a court appearance in connection with the citation in December. He has, however, not yet addressed the incident.
