The son of the former military ruler, Sani Abacha, was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence in June 2010 for being part of a criminal organisation. He was to be re-tried in 2011 as he could not attend court due to his inability to get a Swiss visa. Together with the other members of the Abacha family, he controlled the loot that his father had stolen.
