Rich Homie Quan’s family speaks out after rapper’s shocking death at 33

Rich Homie Quan’s family recently broke their silence after the late rapper’s death and penned an emotional tribute to him. The late rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away in his Atlanta home on Thursday, September 5. He was 33. 

His cause of death is yet to be disclosed. However, in a recent statement to PEOPLE, his family touched on his musical legacy and also expressed their gratitude for the support they received in the wake of his death. 

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024 the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend. Known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented for the A as he and his music traveled across this globe,” his family said in the statement.

“While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on. Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful. Celebration of life details will be shared soon. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support at this difficult time.”

Rich Homie Quan was pronounced dead after his girlfriend found him unresponsive in their Atlanta home. The Fulton County medical examiner in a subsequent statement said that the Grady Memorial Hospital informed them about his death, PEOPLE reported. He underwent an autopsy on Friday, but details of that are yet to be made public.

The medical examiner also said the late rapper’s “cause and manner of death are pending the completion of laboratory studies and microscopic examination of tissue slides.”

Rich Homie Quan was a well-known rapper in his hometown of Atlanta. He shot into the limelight with hit songs including Type of Way and Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh). He also collaborated with several mainstream artists including Young Thug, Birdman, YG, Jeezy, 2 Chainz, and Gucci Mane.

He is survived by four sons and a daughter.
