Founded in 2004 by Barry Segal, SFF finds visionary grassroots organizations and progressive donors to implement, refine, and scale the most effective, locally appropriate solutions to improve the well-being of youth across Sub-Saharan Africa. After the sale of Mr. Segal’s company, Bradco Supply Corp, a trip to Rwanda sparked his interest in international development and philanthropy. Segal Family Foundation has since given over $53.5 million in grants. In 2017, SFF will distribute $12 million in funding to partners spanning 20 African countries.

The SFF Annual Meeting returns to the New York area after being hosted in Uganda in 2016. It brings together numerous philanthropists, service providers, and African NGOs advancing adolescent sexual and reproductive health, improving access to quality education, and increasing youth employment. Most importantly, the meeting will be an opportunity for attendees to learn, network, and celebrate each other’s work.

Additional highlights of the Annual Meeting will include the launch of Segal Family’s Africa Visionary Fellowship, the 5th Annual Pitch Competition, and the American debut of “The African Youth Monologues.”

A select group of leaders who have excelled in the past year will be honored. This year’s award recipients include Wendo Aszed, Founder & Project Coordinator of Dandelion Africa (Kenya), receiving the “Rising Star” Award; Twesigye Jackson Kaguri, Founder of The Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project (Uganda), receiving the “Angel For Africa” Award; Dr. Tharcisse Nshimirimana, Coordinator of Service Yezu Mwiza (Burundi), receiving the “Grassroots Champion” Award; and Faraja Nyalandu, Executive Director of Shule Direct (Tanzania), receiving the “Systems Innovator” Award.

This event is invitation-only; please contact Sarah Gioe at events@segalfamilyfoundation.org with inquiries including media pass and interview request.
