Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens are in the news again as Owens celebrates her for making history as the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympics history. The Chicago Bears safety, 29, got permission to take a break from NFL training camp to watch his wife compete in Paris.
“Witnessing history every time you step on the mat 😍🔥,” he shared in the caption to an Instagram carousel on Tuesday. “Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful i was there to see it ❤️🤍💙,” he added.
Biles appreciated her husband in the comment section. “My whole heart. I love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” she wrote. “Means the world you’re here.”

Owens had been seen in the stands supporting his wife and even noting her scores while wearing a custom shirt. Fans have welcomed his dedication and support, especially after facing criticism for saying he wasn’t aware that Biles was a famous gymnast.

They met on an app
The two met on the celebrity dating app Raya in March 2020, just before the pandemic. “I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later,” Biles told The Wall Street Journal. “He would say I slid into his DMs,” she said.
The gold medalist also told the Today show how easy it was to fall in love with Owens. “Our personalities match right up. We have the same sense of humor. And he’s just great. He’s an athlete, too, so we really understand each other and I think that’s why our relationship has been seamless.”
“I didn’t know who she was,” Owens told Texas Monthly in 2021. “I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.”
In March 2021, the love birds celebrated their 1st anniversary and Biles’ 24th birthday and went to Belize for a vacation.
Biles and Owens got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2022 and married in 2023
Biles announced via Instagram on February 15, 2022, that she was engaged to her boyfriend Owens. “THE EASIEST YES. I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ”, she wrote. A 24-year-old Biles also shared photos on social media of Owens popping the question and a video of her three-carat diamond engagement ring.
Owens proposed on Valentine’s Day in Houston, Texas, where Biles grew up and where Owens, who is in the NFL, played for the Houston Texans.
In April 2023, Biles revealed that she had married Owens at a courthouse ceremony. The following month, they organized a flamboyant ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to celebrate their marriage.
Biles told Today in October last year how marriage had impacted her gymnastics career. “Gymnastics is just something I get to come in and have the privilege of doing. I don’t feel like it’s the end all be all anymore, as before I kind of felt like that. I get to go home to my husband, to my dogs, to my house and all of the things. So it feels really good,” she said.
The two support each other’s careers
Biles recently told People how Owens has been so supportive of her career. “He’s always, always so helpful and making sure I stay on top of my therapy and all of that. He’s the best because he also goes through it [as an athlete], so he knows exactly how it is in the process. It’s been amazing to have him,” she said.
Following a case of the twisties that caused her to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo Olympics, Owens was there to offer support.
“Post Tokyo, Jonathan was just like, I mean, he always has a good head on his shoulders, and he’s like, ‘You’ll get back to where you were,’ and made sure I was staying on top of my training,” Biles said in the Netflix docuseries about her life, according to TODAY.
“He was making sure I was going to my therapy sessions and was trying to do as much as he could, without kind of being bossy, but he was really just like a shoulder to lean on because he saw like those dark times after Tokyo,” Biles, who also often attends Owens’ football games, added.
The two are known for their pups
Biles runs an Instagram page for her French bulldogs, Lilo and Rambo, at @thebilesfrenchies. Owens does the same for his bulldog, Zeus, whose Instagram page is @zeusthebulldog36.
The couple are also building their first home together in Texas. Last September, Biles shared photos of the building.
